THE TEAM

CHRISTOPHER S. PORTER

Chris was born to an American mother and a British father, in Nairobi Kenya. As I child he moved around Africa, before moving back to Kenya when he was 12, and then leaving for the UK when he was fourteen.

After University Chris traveled the world, living in Amsterdam, Alaska and Egypt, however he knew Kenya, the land of his birth was the country he wished to call home.In 2021 he started working in Diani, alongside Noel (co-owner/ one of the threads), a family friend. Living in Diani he lamented the lack of a suitable variety of clothes for the hot environment and beach life style. He also saw an area where the only business that mattered was tourism, with minimal effect in growing the local community or economy outside of this one sector.

He began to think about how a business could help cater to tourists and Kenya's alike with a goal of helping Diani and Ukunda. These plans were temporarily side tracked when in 2022 he meet the love of his life Annette (co-owner/one of the threads), but as their love burnt bright, the idea of business celebrating all aspects of Diani re-kindled. After touching base with and incorporating Noelle as the third thread, 3 Threads was born.

ANNETTE A. PORTER

Annette grew up in Mombasa City, as her parents had moved there before she was born. With her family spread out across the country she became familiar with many parts of the country, but at heart remained coastarian, even after studying in Eldoret and working in Nairobi.

In 2016 Annette moved to Australia to gain a masters in Media, where she also got her first taste of working in the fashion industry. Despite the lush beaches of Australia she missed her home, especially the food, music, culture, and most of all she missed the fashion and clothes of the vibrant Kenyan coast.

She Returned to Kenya in 2019, however with a lack of fashion job being located at the coast she moved to Nairobi for work. There she meet Chris (co-owner/ one of the threads) and quickly found herself engaged. After meeting his family friend Noel (co-owner/ one of the threads) and seeing the need for more coast based fashion brands, she dedicated herself to making 3 threads a reality.
